The tuner raised the power of the hybrid BMW i8 to 409 hpApril 30, 2020
Atelier DTE Systems was able to increase the power of the hybrid power plant of the Bavarian coupe to 409 hp. (635 Nm). They also managed to reduce total fuel consumption by 15 percent.
The fate of the hybrid sports car BMW i8 has already been decided – the model will not receive further development. Although the automaker did not fail to note the end of mass production of this car, possibly due to the current pandemic, it was officially announced that the production of an electrified sports car would be stopped by mid-April.
I8 “says goodbye to the world” with the following final power: 369 horsepower (570 Nm). Not so bad, considering that these figures belong to a hybrid power plant, consisting of a 1.5-liter gasoline in-line engine and an electric motor with a battery of 11.6 kW * h.
But the tuners from DTE Systems are confident that the i8 is quite capable of more. They used a special module for chip tuning – a module called PowerControl RX. This piece of iron works with a standard electronic engine control unit. By changing the necessary settings, the studio masters managed to squeeze out an additional 40 hp from the hybrid. (66 Nm). Thus, the final figures were 409 hp. power and 635 Nm of torque.
The standard I8 can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. With this new power output, we should expect an improvement in the dynamic performance of the car, but the guys from DTE do not yet tell us how much the coupe helped increase the performance.
According to the managing director of DTE, increasing the power of the i8 was “quite a challenge.” In addition, it was possible to achieve a reduction in fuel consumption by 15 percent.
