The Top Gear route will be turned into a residential districtApril 4, 2018
The test track of the car TV show will be turned into a residential complex consisting of 1800 houses, sports grounds and business facilities
The test track and the main film set of the Top Gear automotive TV show at the Dansfold airfield in Surrey will be dismantled, and in its place a residential complex for 1,800 houses will be built. This is reported by the British edition of Get Surrey.
The possibility of re-equipping a test site in a residential neighborhood has been discussed by local authorities over the past few years, and the final decision to start work was taken at the end of March.
The project of a new complex called Dunsfold Park, in particular, provides for the construction of 540 houses under the “affordable housing” program for young families. In addition, the location of the track will be office buildings, sports grounds and a medical center. At the same time, local residents express fears that an increase in the population may have a negative impact on the infrastructure, in particular, on the congestion of roads.
The route, built on the site of the military airfield Dansfold of the Second World War, was used by the transfer of Top Gear since 2002. The fastest road car of the track is the supercar McLaren 675LT, passed the distance in 1 minute 13.7 seconds. Racing car Formula 1 Renault R24 drove the track in 59 seconds.
