The tests seen a prototype hybrid crossover VW Touareg GTEMay 7, 2020
Journalists have seen a prototype of the mid-size crossover VW Touareg in a hybrid modification of the GTE. The car did not receive a single type of camouflage.
In February this year, Volkswagen introduced the Touareg R – the most powerful (when it comes to horsepower) iteration of the latest generation of German crossover. With 456 horsepower (700 Nm) provided by a plug-in hybrid powerplant with a 3.0-liter gasoline engine, this version of the popular car has tremendous power and can even reach speeds of up to 140 km / h in purely electric mode.
These photos show the Touareg GTE prototype, completely undisguised by any camouflage. As its name implies, it will be an electrified version of a large German crossover, which will be located below the Touareg R in the current hierarchy of the model. In fact, we already have a pretty good idea of what is likely to be under the hood of the new items.
When the new Touareg was released in April 2018, the automaker announced a version of the PHEV (plug-in hybrid) for the Chinese market.
Such a car used a 2.0-liter gasoline engine, as well as an electric motor with a battery of 18 kW * h. The total power of the hybrid was 362 hp. – The European version of the model should have exactly the same amount.
As these “spy” photos show, the Touareg GTE will not differ much from the rest of the crossover trim levels. VW visually delimits the novelty by adding visual touches, special badges and, possibly, a slightly modified front panel to its exterior to better distinguish it from the diesel, gasoline and R-versions of the crossover. A plug-in hybrid version of Touareg will be presented before the end of the year.
