The tests saw a prototype of the updated Mercedes S-Class sedan

Judging by the pictures from the tests of the prototype of the new generation of the executive sedan, the brand’s engineers are almost ready to show us a fully finished version of the car. The presentation will take place next year.

The first test prototypes of the updated German Mercedes S-Class sedan, which will go on sale as a 2021 model year car, were noticed back in 2017. Then the car was covered simply with “tons” of camouflage. Well, those “spy” pictures with prototypes of the long-awaited executive class news that appeared at the disposal of our editorial office a couple of minutes ago show a car with much less disguise. However, we do not see much of the updated exterior.

Camouflage film disappeared from the hood, trunk and exterior, revealing the A-, B- and C-pillars of the car. On the roof above the rear window there is a bulge, which is absent in other noticed test prototypes of the novelty. It can accommodate a receiver for satellite and terrestrial radio communications or other communication devices.

The all-new S-Class sedan, which will be officially unveiled next year, should receive the most advanced driver assistance and safety systems. It is expected that the novelty will be able to boast of a level 2 autonomous control system.

The new generation of the executive sedan will not receive a fully electric motor (at least this version of the car will not be available immediately), but it will be able to offer a plug-in hybrid engine. Now, customers are available with the S560e, under the hood of which is a powerful turbocharged V6 gasoline engine and an additional electric motor. Most likely, the all-electric S-class will certainly be presented, but not in the near future – the brand’s engineers need to find where to install the batteries without jeopardizing the interior space and the level of luxury that this executive car is loved for.
