The tests saw a prototype armored Mercedes S-Class Guard 2021April 30, 2020
Journalists came across a camouflaged prototype of a new generation of luxury Mercedes S-Class armored Guard. The date of presentation of such a version of the novelty is still unknown.
In recent months, we have closely watched the next generation of the full-size Mercedes S-Class sedan in the regular version, as well as the more luxurious and expensive Maybach performance, but this prototype of the novelty, which will be discussed in this article, is a little more special than others. At first glance, this may seem like a typical W223 generation test car, but a closer look at the windshield reveals how thick it really is. The same can be said about the side window, which allows us to assume that this is actually a Mercedes S-Class in the performance of the Guard, that is, an armored version of the German sedan.
Another indicative sign that we are dealing specifically with the armored version of the novelty is the type of tires that the prototype uses – Michelin PAX – the same ones that are standard on the current S-Class Guard. The W222 has an optional tire pressure monitoring system, and the car can cover 30 km even after tire damage.
Even the wheels have the same design as those used in the current S-Class Guard.
When the current S600 Guard debuted back in 2014, it was the first car certified to provide maximum ballistic protection in the VR9 class, which, according to Mercedes, provides “effective protection against threats posed by terrorist attacks.” The Three-Pointed Star says that the armor of a VR9-certified car is “designed to withstand rifle shooting, the speed of a bullet in which is almost twice the speed of pistol bullets.” They also provide resistance to fragments from hand grenades and explosive charges. ”
Given the significantly increased weight than the usual S-class, we expect the new generation of the armored sedan to be equipped with the most powerful engines that the German brand can offer for its luxury new generation W223. The current version of the armored vehicle in the S600 specification is equipped with a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine.
