The Subaru Impreza hatchback became a hybrid and received a sports version

A year after the planned modernization of the Impreza model, Subaru announced the expansion of the family. At the same time, we immediately note that only the hatchback got the new versions.

The first thing to say is that now the five-door has received a hybrid version with an e-Boxer power plant, which has been used on the brand’s models such as the XV and Forester for several years. Such a hybrid power plant consists of an atmospheric 2.0-liter “boxer”, derated from 154 to 145 hp, and an electric motor built into the variator with a return of 14 hp. and 65 Nm, which helps during the start of the movement and in the first seconds of acceleration.

The hybrid versions are offered exclusively with all-wheel drive, while the front-wheel drive version retains the same 2.0-liter engine with 154 hp. without electric attachment. The traction battery is quite modest (with a capacity of 4.8 Ah), it cannot be recharged from the outlet, and such a hatchback does not have a purely electric driving mode. The volume of the gas tank of the hybrid Impreza has been reduced from 50 to 48 liters, but the ground clearance has been increased from 130 to 135 mm.

The second important innovation is that the Subaru Impreza hatchback received a top version called STI Sport, which, again, was already offered in other models of the brand earlier. At the same time, this version cannot be considered a full-fledged STI, since the power unit is standard here – the same 2.0-liter aspirated with 154 hp. in combination with a variator. But such a five-door received a recalibrated suspension with adaptive shock absorbers in front.

Other differences include original 18-inch wheels, ubiquitous black bodywork, two-tone seat upholstery and red accents in the interior. The manufacturer also allows the choice of such a model with both front and all-wheel drive, and this is the first model from the STI Sport series with two drive wheels.

In Japan, cars are already available for order. Hybrid hatchback Subaru Impreza e-Boxer starts at $ 24,000, and the STI Sport version starts at $ 25,500
