Earlier, BMW had intended to release a second-generation BMW i8 with a hybrid power plant, as in the previous generation model, but now the decision of the Bavarian specialists changed in favor of exclusively electric “engine”. The new coupe equipped with an electric power plant capacity of 750 hp. This will double the power as compared to its two-door predecessor.
BMW i8 will receive three second-generation electric motor. With an improved set of batteries, the capacity of which is increased, the coupe will be able to overcome the 500-kilometer distance on a single charge. This makes the new product competitive with the budget model of the American automaker Tesla Model 3.
Also Bavarian engineers decided to improve driving abilities of the second generation BMW i8, equipping it with all-wheel drive system that distributes pull between the wheels and adaptive suspension, having a road analysis option, preparing the cars for the upcoming road irregularities.
According to preliminary information, the serial production the second generation BMW i8 will be launched within 6-7 years.
