The replacement for the hybrid hypercar McLaren P1 will be released in 2024April 13, 2020
McLaren has already begun work on the “son of P1” hypercar, which will be the next model in the automaker’s Ultimate Series after Barchetta.
British brand CEO Mike Flewitt confirmed that we can expect to see the car in 2024, adding that it will be electrified.
“We have not announced a power plant. It is obvious that in the future the novelty will be either hybridized or electrified, ”said the top manager.
Although Flewitt admitted that the technical specifications of future electric hypercars such as the Lotus Evija and Pininfarina Battista are “unbelievable,” he insisted that McLaren buyers focus not only on numbers. McLaren has already committed itself to aggressively hybridize its lineup.
Based on past conversations with insiders at McLaren, Autocar believes that the next P1 will use a hybrid split system with an electric front axle drive. The back will be equipped with a regular gasoline engine or a version of the hybrid V6 used in the new sports series.
Although hybridization will create problems with the bodywork and weight of the machine for engineers, they are much smaller than those that get only an electric motor, because the battery will be much lighter and more compact.
