The prototype of the updated Land Rover Range Rover SUV spotted on testsAugust 5, 2020
A camouflaged prototype of a new generation Land Rover Range Rover SUV was spotted on tests. A safety cage was installed in the passenger compartment. The new Range Rover will be unveiled by the end of next year.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a prototype of a next-generation Land Rover Range Rover SUV, but this is the first time we’ve seen a luxury novelty with a roll cage. This is a bit surprising to us, especially considering the fact that this prototype does not look like more powerful versions of the model.
If you look closely at the rear of this test car, you will notice two tailpipes of the exhaust system.
The fact is that the more powerful versions of the SUV have a four-pipe exhaust system. That is, we are clearly not a version of the model with a V8 engine.
The cabin has some kind of visible roll cage, which suggests that test drivers are likely evaluating the overall design of the car.
The new Range Rover will join the next generation Range Rover Sport to a completely new high aluminum platform. The Modular Platform (MLA) will be significantly lighter than the current D7u and will be used in virtually every new Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle in the future.
According to initial data, the 2022 Range Rover SUV should be about the same size as the current version of the model, and this is clearly visible in the new “spy” images. It is known that the novelty will be offered with electrified motors. Range Rover may ditch its current supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine – it could be replaced by BMW’s 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged engine.
We expect the new Range Rover to be unveiled by the end of next year as new for the 2022 model year.
Not so long ago, our publication wrote that Land Rover presented an anniversary version of the Range Rover Fifty. Land Rover celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Range Rover SUV with a new limited edition featuring the body colors of yesteryear.
