The prototype of the updated Kia Sportage 2022 spotted at the NurburgringNovember 15, 2020
Despite the fact that the test prototype of the South Korean Kia Sportage 2021 model year is all covered with camouflage, you can still see that the model is waiting for significant changes in terms of the exterior.
A new generation of the compact crossover Kia Sportage is currently under development. It is expected that the debut of new items will occur in April 2021. This series of spy shots shows that the prototype is now undergoing speed tests at the Nürburgring.
Compared to the earlier “spy” video, the crossover test sample is not covered with black cloth. However, the camouflage in these photos still hides a lot. The outer edge of the more angular headlights is visible in front, and there are also sharp corners of the air intakes in the bumper.
When viewed in profile, it is clear that the next generation Sportage is more chiseled than the current rounded design. At the back we can only see the outer edges of the taillights.
While there are no high-quality images of the interior yet, significant updates can be expected.
Considering what other companies are doing, you can expect multiple screens at once. The list of supported active and passive safety technologies should also be expanded.
The new Kia Sportage should be built on the same platform as the newest Hyundai Tucson. Depending on the market, buyers will be able to purchase the new product with a variety of engines, including gasoline and diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid. Front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the crossover will be available.
There may be two wheelbase lengths available depending on the market. The long wheelbase will go to countries where extra rear legroom is a priority for buyers – China in particular.
Following its April debut, the new Sportage is expected to go on sale before the end of the year. However, the company may arrange for a phased introduction of various powertrains, for example, plug-in hybrid versions of the PHEV may not be available immediately.
Not so long ago, we wrote that the Germans modernized the diesel Kia Stinger. German tuning company AMJ-Fahrzeugdesign decided to modify the Kia Stinger.
