A 2022 Chevrolet Bolt test prototype has been spotted in New York, USA. Apparently, the electric car has received big changes in appearance.

Chevrolet is developing many new electric or electrified vehicles. One of them is a completely revamped version of Bolt, which will be joined by the high-performance Bolt EUV. The latter will essentially be a renamed and slightly modified version of the Buick Velite sold in China, while the former will be a direct successor to the original Bolt launched in 2016. Today we can share the first spy shots of the new Bolt.

Photos were taken in New York (USA). The prototype of the new Bolt was parked in a nearly empty parking lot, giving journalist Derek Fung enough time and space to take a few pictures.

From what we can see, the zero-emission hatchback looks “sharper” than the current Bolt. It’s too early to say for sure, but it looks like the front end will be heavily inspired by the new Blazer – and that also seems to include split headlights. The camouflage layer still covers the front fascia, but two rows of lights break through underneath.

However, not much is known about what happens under the hood. The current generation bolt is powered by an electric motor that delivers a maximum power of 201 hp. (360 Nm). The distance between the two charges is 416 kilometers, measured by EPA standards.

More details are to be revealed next year when the new Bolt officially debuts. We expect it to arrive closer to the second half of the year, with sales starting in late 2021 or early 2022.
