On tests, a prototype of the Toyota GR Super Sport hypercar was noticed. Behind the wheel sat the CEO of the Japanese brand. The car will be shown in the version for public roads and for racing.

The new generation of the Supra sports coupe may be the most powerful Toyota on the market today. But let’s keep in mind that it will not remain so much longer – the brand’s engineers are already experiencing a hypercar whose power is three times the power of the Supra. We are talking about GR Super Sport, a hypercar that is currently being developed as a model for driving on public roads, as well as a racing car that will participate in the newly created FIA hypercar class during the 2020/21 World Endurance Championship racing season.

Version of the new track for racing will actually be based on the road car, and today we have a rare opportunity to see the prototype in action. Filmed in Fuji Speedway in Japan, the GR Super Sport was completely disguised, and none other than Toyota’s CEO and President, Akio Toyoda, is driving it.

In the version for public roads, the new GR Super Sport will be the “spiritual” heir to the road version of the TS020 GT-One concept of the late 1990s.

It is possible that the hypercar will use a hybrid installation with a capacity of somewhere around 1000 horsepower. The showcar of the same name had a total power of 986 hp – 2.4-liter V6 and two electric motors.

It is important to mention that a racing car will not be as powerful as, in accordance with the rules of racing, the power should be limited to 750 hp and the weight should not exceed 1100 kg. If in the race cars of the Japanese team a hybrid installation will be used, then in this case, its power should not be more than 270 hp.
