The stage of the Formula 1 World Cup in Shanghai, China, was postponed indefinitely. This decision was made due to an outbreak of coronavirus. This was reported on the official website of the FIA.
Racing in China was supposed to be held April 17-19. According to the FIA official statement, if the situation in the country normalizes, the Chinese Grand Prix may take place before the end of this year.
“In view of the continued spread of the coronavirus and after lengthy discussions with the Federation of Auto and Motorsport of the PRC, the Chinese Grand Prix promoter formally requested to postpone the competition in 2020. The FIA, together with Formula 1, decided to accept this official request from the organizer and reschedule the Grand Prix, ”the report said.
Prior to this, the stage of Formula 1 was canceled in 2011. Then the race was to be held in Bahrain, but due to mass protests in this country was postponed. The next stage of Formula 1 will be held in early April in Vietnam.
A new coronavirus was discovered in the Chinese city of Wuhan, Hubei Province in mid-December 2019. At the moment, it is known about 42 638 infected and over 1000 dead. On January 22, 2020, quarantine was introduced in Wuhan and neighboring cities – the authorities, in particular, stopped public transport, and also closed the city for entry and exit. To date, cases have been reported in the USA, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Australia, Spain, South Korea, Japan, Finland, the United Arab Emirates and other countries.
