The next Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman will translate into electric tractionApril 23, 2019
The German brand will develop hybrid and all-electric modifications of the junior 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman sports cars.
The younger generation of the next-generation Porsche sports cars, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, will receive all-electric versions. In addition, the company is discussing the possibility of developing hybrid versions of current models. About this edition Autocar told the head of the German brand Oliver Blum.
“We already have all-electric prototypes of the 718s. In addition, we are now creating a hybrid version of the model. As for the next generation, it is not yet clear whether it will be just a car on a combined drive, or whether we will launch a plug-in hybrid, ” – said Blum.
The decision to produce hybrids along with all-electric modifications is associated with the results of internal engineering research. In particular, it showed the impossibility of creating an electric vehicle with a mileage of more than 300 km without making significant changes to the current mid-engine architecture.
Recall that the first serial electric car of the Porsche company will be the four-door Taycan model, the release of which starts at the end of 2019. The structure of the Porsche Taycan powerplant will include two electric motors installed on the front and rear axles. The total return of units, powered by a 800-volt architecture, will be at least 600 horsepower. The car will be able to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds. Declared power reserve – 500 kilometers.
