The next generation of the “charged” Volkswagen Golf GTI is seen on testsJuly 9, 2019
Journalists have noticed a prototype of the German Volkswagen Golf hatchback in a high-performance GTI version. Golf GTI and Golf R should be shown next year.
Volkswagen with might and main is working on the next generation Golf hatchback – the prototypes of the new model are being actively tested. Now we have spy photos of the more powerful Golf GTI performance – this is the very first look at this new product. Spy photos of the car look almost the same as in the case of the usual Golf 2020 model year, however, upon closer inspection, it is easy to see that this is still a hotter version of the popular model.
This prototype of the high-performance Golf GTI has larger and wider wheels, wider side sills, large exhaust tailpipes and larger air intakes compared to the standard disguised Golf we saw.
The “icing on the cake” is a spoiler, which has become noticeably larger than on the ordinary Golf. However, despite all the visual updates that help distinguish the Golf GTI from just the Golf, the new design is not much different from the current generation of hatchbacks.
It seems that Volkswagen does not change the “formula” of the best-selling 2018 car in Europe – VW sold 445,754 Golf units last year, which is impressive when you consider that the current generation car debuted in 2012. Huge sales figures and continued success are probably one of the reasons why VW does not plan to drastically change the design of the model. Instead, by providing him with a few visual upgrades inside and out, along with new technologies and motors, Golf can easily be made the next-generation sales leader.
Details about the next generation of Golf are scarce, and information about the GTI version is almost absent. The current Golf GTI develops 228 horsepower and 349 Nm of torque. The next-generation GTI should be much better than this, possibly increasing the power of 300 hp. The current edition of the GTI TCR develops 290 hp.
