The next electric hypercar Pininfarina will be a crossoverNovember 21, 2019
Pininfarina has produced between 600 and 1,000 horsepower for the Pura Vision by 2021.
Having made the 1900-strong Battista hypercar, Pininfarina does not stop. The next step is the release of at least two more fast and radically stylish luxury electric cars on their own unique platform. The teaser image shows the outline of the first GT crossover with a glass cabin.
Pininfarina is owned by the Indian conglomerate Mahindra, so there is substantial funding behind it. Automotive Director Pininfarina Michael Pershke said there is an investment plan of up to € 1 billion for Battista, as well as the development of a new platform and two cars from it.
The first S-LUV (eco-friendly luxury universal vehicle) of the company in size, height and purpose will be something like a Porsche’s Mission-e Cross Turismo, while outwardly completely unlike Porsche. A large-scale model of the concept car called Pura Vision will be shown at Pebble Beach in August 2020 at an event dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Pininfarina. It is planned that the production car goes on sale in 2021. Design Director Luca Borgogno says he will not be so different from Pura Vision.
According to him, the design of Pura Vision is inspired by the futuristic concept of Pininfarina with a 1953 glass roof called Alfa Romeo Superflow 4. The new crossover will have electrochromic glass throughout the roof with a variable light and heat filter. Columns and doorways will have a minimum thickness for the required strength. Borgogno says the interior design is inspired by a nautical theme, with huge strips of wood or carbon fiber on a deeply curved panel.
The brand’s chief designer declares that it will be a fast crossover, the power of which in the top version will reach 1000 hp, and in the “entry-level” version, perhaps 600 hp. Both will receive 4WD three-engine torque, and a 125 kWh battery will provide a decent range. The cost of a hypercar will vary from 250 thousand to 300 thousand pounds
