The new Volkswagen pickup truck can debut this weekMarch 26, 2018
As part of the New York Motor Show, which opens on March 28, the Volkswagen brand can present a conceptual pickup truck. This is reported by Automotive News with reference to its own sources. As the edition marks, in a serial model the prototype will reincarnate in the event that it will collect positive responses.
If the project is still given a “green light”, then a pickup truck is supposedly built on the basis of the crossover VW Atlas. And the truck will be built at the plant’s plant in Tennessee, where today they produce a “donor” all-terrain vehicle. The main competitors of the novelty in the US market will be Honda Ridgeline, Chevrolet Colorado, Toyota Tacoma and Ford Ranger.
Note, in the line of Volkswagen already has a mid-sized pickup truck – Amarok, but in the States this model is not sold. Meanwhile, last year the company registered the name Amarok in the US, so it is possible that in the US market a new VW truck will be sold under a well-known name.
Crossover Volkswagen Atlas in the US is offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with a gasoline 4-cylinder turbo engine 2.0 TSI with a capacity of 235 hp. and the VR6 3.6 engine, which produces 276 hp, both engines are combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. While the all-terrain vehicle is only available with a three-row saloon, but soon the Americans will be offered a five-seat version as well – the premiere of this SUV will also take place at the motor show in New York.
