The new Volkswagen Golf R is fully unveiledFebruary 18, 2020
The official debut of the novelty will take place only a few months later, however, the new product fell completely without camouflage to the photographers.
In many ways, we are still getting acquainted with the new VW Golf of the eighth generation. The new generation of the legendary hatchback debuted in October 2019, and the German automaker could not resist the temptation to voice all future modifications of the model. The appearance of the GTI version did not raise any doubts, but today there was reliable information about the appearance of the Golf R. Performance. Moreover, the car was spotted by photo spies during testing completely without camouflage.
The fact that this is exactly the R version is indicated by twin exhaust pipes on both sides, and powerful brakes are behind the wheels. In fact, we saw similar brakes in recent GTI TCR spy shots taken earlier in February, but the front of this car is completely different and more aggressive.
In one of the photos on the back of the “charged” hatchback, one can notice snow flying from under the wheels of the rear axle. This can only say that we have an all-wheel drive version of the model.
Technical characteristics of new items have not yet been confirmed. Volkswagen’s leaked slideshow says it will have 329 hp. power that will be transmitted to all four wheels through a dual-clutch gearbox. This is a decent decrease in power from the current generation and, of course, should provide some fierce competition for the Honda Civic Type R. There may be an even more “charged” model, developing more than 400 hp.
The new generation Volkswagen Golf R makes its debut this summer at the Goodwood Speed Festival, although the presentation venue has not yet been confirmed. Other rumors that he will appear later this year, but in any case, the car is likely to go on sale in the United States as a 2021 model.
