The new version of the BMW 4-Series sedan is being testedMarch 18, 2020
Some publications published photos from the tests of the next-generation 4 Series coupe. The novelty will be presented this year.
With its fairly controversial Concept 4 show car, which was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019, BMW showed off quite radical styling changes planned for the next generation 4-Series coupe. We are talking about rethinking the false radiator grille, and more specifically about its monstrous size.
In these pictures of the prototype of the novelty, the grill is visible almost completely.
The lattice is still not as big as on the aforementioned concept and this is good, because many spoke out against such a design decision.
This seems to be what BMW calls the “active radiator grille,” since the flaps seem to be closed to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the car. Whenever the engine needs more air to cool, the flaps open automatically. Without the thick chrome frame that Concept 4 had, the grille looks better. Depending on the selected equipment and additional “packages”, there is a possibility that the updated 4-Series coupe will be offered both with a chrome frame and without it.
In addition to the radiator grille, the blue brake calipers and dual exhaust pipes allow us to believe that we have a “hotter” version of the new product from M Performance – that is, it may well be the prototype of the future M440i. Rumors say that under the hood there will be a 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder turbocharged engine with a capacity of 382 hp. (500 Nm).
