The new Rivian R1S will go on sale in Europe in 2022November 19, 2020
It’s been almost two years since Rivian unveiled the R1T and R1S at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and the debut of the models has been postponed more than once. Now, the company said that the R1S will arrive in Europe only in 2022.
To date, Rivian has introduced two models: R1T and R1S. As an all-electric pickup truck, the R1T is important for the US market, but it will likely be less popular in Europe. The R1S, a seven-seater full-size SUV, will be more popular there.
Startup CEO RJ Scaringe, however, says Rivian should mainly rely on smaller models outside of America. It is not yet known exactly how they will look. However, these models are expected to borrow technology and platform from the R1T and R1S.
As previously reported, the new Rivian R1S in Launch Edition should roll off the assembly line in August 2021 and will cost $ 77,500, or about 5.92 million rubles at the current exchange rate. Then in January 2022, the Explore and Adventure versions will be released, priced at $ 70,000 and $ 77,500, respectively. All R1S variants have a battery with a promised range of over 480 kilometers and are powered by four electric motors. The claimed acceleration to 100 km / h takes only 3 seconds. The R1S should also receive a towing capacity of the order of 3500 kg. Rivian has yet to release final specs.
If Rivian can also offer the R1S in Europe at the above price, then the model will be quite competitive. For example, the BMW iX3 is priced from 67,500 euros and offers much less space.
