Production of diesel modification of the new generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV will begin in December 2018, and European sales of such cars will start in March 2019. This is with reference to its own source, reports Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog.
The SUV with the G350d 4Matic index will be equipped with an OM 656 engine, which debuted in 2017 on the updated S-Class flagship sedan and the new generation CLS sedan. On both models, this 2.9-liter six-cylinder unit is available in two versions of the boost: the base version develops 286 hp. and 600 Nm of torque, while the top version is capable of delivering 340 hp and 700 Nm. It is assumed that the off-road car G-Class will install only the most powerful version of this engine.
The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class was introduced in January 2018 at the Detroit Motor Show, and its mass production started in mid-May at Magna Steyr in Austria. At the initial stage, the SUV will be available with a single four-liter twin-turbo V8 unit developing 422 hp and 610 Nm of torque. The engine is combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission, transmitting traction on both axles in a ratio of 40% to 60% in favor of the rear.
Later will be available “charged” version of the AMG with a four-liter supercharged eight, issuing 585 sid and 850 Nm. Such a car can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is limited to 220 km per hour.
