The new Mercedes-Benz SL will make it look like a seagull wingMay 31, 2020
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL will inherit the stylistic features of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL model of the middle of the last century, which was called the “Seagull Wing” for unusual doors.
The famous 300 SL model, produced from 1955 to 1963, is considered by many to be the most beautiful car in history with a three-beam star on the radiator grill. Therefore, as the chief designer of the brand Gordon Wagener told in an interview with Autocar, the new Mercedes-Benz SL will be made similar to the “Seagull Wing”. The future generation Roadster may debut in 2021 and promises to be the most similar to the 300 SL Mercedes in the history of the brand. At the same time, Wagener noted that he was not going to accurately adapt the retrostyle to modern design, but the general style and a number of details would hint at the “Seagull Wing”.
As you know, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL will share the platform with the new AMG GT coupe, but Wagener promised that the difference between them would be noticeable to the naked eye. Presumably, the roadster will get a lightweight fabric upper instead of a metal roof for the current generation car. At the top of the model line, according to preliminary data, there will be a version of SL 73 from Mercedes-AMG, which is equipped with a hybrid power plant based on a four-liter V8 with a turbocharger and an electric motor with a total capacity of about 800 horsepower.
