The new Kia Soul EV is delayed for the US marketOctober 20, 2019
The updated Kia Soul EV is already sold in Europe, however, the new product will be available to American customers only in 2021.
The presentation of the new EV Soul model took place at the Los Angeles auto show in 2018 and was supposed to appear on the American market this year, but due to the popularity in Europe and the limited supply of vital elements for the battery and electric motors, the Korean brand decided to limit sales.
According to Michael Cole, Executive Director of Kia Motors America, overall, demand for electric cars in Europe is high, as there are strict rules to limit carbon emissions. He did not directly associate this with the Soul EV delay, but emphasized that the all-electric Kia Niro is in high demand in the European market, while in America the volume of sales of this model decreased some time ago.
The updated Kia Soul EV is an upgraded model of the first generation in almost all respects. A powerful 64 kWh battery is enough for 390 km of track, which is about 2 times the power reserve of the current model. With the release of the new EV, it will be possible to “drive with one pedal” due to the regenerative braking levels set by the driver, which ranges from easy rolling to reliably sharp.
