The new Kia K900 was introduced earlier than expectedMarch 20, 2018
In Korea, the first show of the Kia K9 sedan of the new generation was held. In the US, the model is sold under the K900 index.
Earlier it was reported that in the homeland of the brand the flagship sedan will make its debut in April 2018. According to recent data, the next month is scheduled for the launch of “live” sales of new items in Korea. The American modification – K900 – will be brought to the New York Motor Show, which will open on March 28.
Four-door sedan is built on a new platform, details of which in Kia have not been disclosed. Probably, the K9 of the second generation is based on the platform from Genesis G90 (in Korea – EQ900). The model of the previous generation was created on the basis of the Hyundai Equus (by the way, this Hyundai sedan replaced the G90).
The length of the new Kia is 5 120 mm, which is 25 mm larger than the previous K9, the width is 1 915 mm (+15 mm), the height is the same – 1 490 mm, the wheelbase is 3 105 mm (+60 mm). In addition, the front and rear overhangs are shorter. For comparison, the dimensions of the standard Genesis G90 (the model has a “stretched” version): 5 205/1 915/1 495 mm, wheelbase – 3 160 mm.
The new Kia K9 / K900 received a radiator grille consisting of 176 cells, and unusual optics: both in headlights and in flashlights – dual LED sections, in Kia such a technique was called a “double comet”. In the interior trim are used natural leather and wood, there are inserts of metal. Instead of the traditional “device” – a display on the center console the analog clock from the Swiss company Maurice Lacroix flashes. The sedan has a “smart” illumination controls: the system responds to traffic and enhances the lighting in those places to which the driver brings his hand. The salon lighting can be customized according to your mood, seven different themes are offered.
Also in the arsenal of four-door sedan are: nine airbags, a multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen, Lexicon audio system, adaptive cruise control, wireless charging, projection display, blind zone monitoring system, electronically controlled dampers and a traffic assistant in the band LFA (Lane Following Assist). The latter system tracks in the flow vehicles moving in front of the car, and road markings, and supports the movement of the car within its lane along the motorway, controlling acceleration, braking and steering actions, while following the car in front. This “assistant” is also in Kia Ceed of the new generation.
Motors of the new K9 got from Genesis: in Korea, the flagship sedan Kia is available with petrol engines V6 3.8 GDI (315 hp), V8 5.0 GDI (425 hp) and biturbed V6 3.3 (370 hp). All engines are combined with an eight-band automatic. In the “base” all versions are rear-wheel drive, for a surcharge for a four-door sedan with V6 engines there is a four-wheel drive (for the first time for K9 / K900).
In Korea, orders for the second generation K9 are already being accepted, and the novelty is still much cheaper than the Genesis G90 / EQ900. The price of the Kia sedan with the 3.8 GDi engine starts at 54,900,000 won. The Genesis flagship with the same engine in Korea costs from 75,000,000 won.
Korea is the largest market for a large Kia sedan. So, last year there were sold 1 553 sedans of the first generation.
Previously, Kia brought to the home market another novelty – in Korea, sales of the restyled minivan Carnival started.
