Apparently, starting with the new generation compact Porsche Macan crossover, the approach of the German brand to electrify its model range will be greatly changed. As part of his interview, the official representative of the brand spoke about the new product.

It is now known that the German Porsche brand completely abandons the internal combustion engine for the Macan compact crossover of the next generation, which will be released in 2021. This will not mean the cessation of production of a model with an internal combustion engine, since the current generation crossover will peacefully coexist with the all-electric version of the model for an indefinite amount of time.

In an interview with the Dutch magazine AutoRAI, Dr. Michael Steiner, a member of the Porsche AG research and development board of directors, revealed additional details about the future of Macan.

Mr. Steiner confirmed that the model with the traditional internal combustion engine will still be available after the debut of the next-generation Macan crossover, adding that this version of the car will remain on sale “for several years.” As for the electric performance of the crossover, Steiner says that Porsche is now also creating names for an electric motor crossover – the “Turbo” prefix is not very suitable for a car that does not have a traditional internal combustion engine.

With the advent of a new generation of models, Macan can get new body types. According to Steiner, is considered a version of the “coupe” in the same spirit as the recently released Cayenne Coupe. Not only that, but Porsche is also analyzing the prospects for creating a Macan “with more space.” A spokesperson for the company calls both potential models “interesting,” but it is too early to tell whether any of them will survive to the presentation.
