The new Hyundai Sonata will acquire a long-base variationMarch 2, 2020
The new Hyundai Sonata will soon be released in China. Chinese customers will be offered an extended modification of the sedan, which will receive a modified bumper design and a different interior layout
Unlike the global Sonata, the Chinese variation has an increased wheelbase by 50 mm (up to 2890 mm) and approximately the same amount (by 55 mm, up to 4955 mm) of a stretched body. All surpluses are provided for rear passengers, for this reason the “metamorphosis” in no way affected the luggage compartment and the space in front.
Outwardly, the Chinese “Sonata” differs only in aggressive bumpers (the same as in the production turbo variations for America and South Korea), but its interior is completely different: the displays of the digital dashboard and infotainment complex are combined under solid glass, the air conditioning unit is completely touch, and coasters on the central tunnel are closed with a sliding curtain.
The engine line is also different. Standard Hyundai Sonata equipped the PRC with a 170-horsepower turbo engine of 1.5 liters and the more expensive ones with a 240-horsepower “turbo four” at 2.0 liters. Together with the first power unit, a preselective “robot” will work, and with the second – a traditional 8-speed automatic transmission.
The new Sonata model for China will be produced at the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. The first salable auto dealers will receive in May this year.
