In the United States, the production of a hybrid sedan Honda Insight of a new generation was launched.

A commercial hybrid Honda of the third generation was introduced in March this year at the New York Auto Show. After a change of generations, the Insight turned from a hatchback with a design in the style of the former Toyota Prius into a coupe-like sedan. The production of the sedan is installed at the Honda plant in Indiana, this enterprise also produces models Civic and CR-V. Petrol engines for the new Insight are assembled in the city of Anna, electric motors in the city of Rassels Point, and traction batteries – in Marysville. The last three plants are located in Ohio. Total investment in the production of the sedan was 61.5 million dollars.

The new Insight is built on the platform of the tenth Honda Civic with McPherson struts in the front and a multi-link rear suspension. The hood of the novelty is made of aluminum. The models have the same wheelbase size – 2,700 mm. The other dimensions of the “four-door” in the company so far and have not disclosed.

Insight of the third generation is equipped with a hybrid installation i-MMD, it included Atkinson’s petrol-powered engine 1.5 and two electric motors, one of which is connected to the ICE and operates in the generator mode, and the second rotates the front wheels. The lithium-ion battery is located under the rear seat. The aggregate power of the hybrid is 153 hp (267 Nm), the claimed fuel consumption is 4.3 l / 100 km in the urban cycle. Only the electric sedan can drive only 1.6 km.

In the arsenal of Honda Insight are: LED optics, 16- or 17-inch wheels, heated side mirrors, digital dashboard, a power hatch, dual-zone climate control, seat upholstery perforated leather. Also for the model there is a complex of security systems Honda Sensing: adaptive cruise control, systems for preventing a front collision, warning of leaving the occupied band, recognition of traffic signs.

In the US market, a new Insight will be released in early summer this year, the price has not yet been announced, but at the same time Honda announced that the novelty will occupy a niche between Civic and Accord. The first model in the States today is from 18,940 dollars, the Accord will cost a minimum of 23,570 dollars. All prices are excluding taxes and shipping. In other markets Insight, most likely, will not appear.

Recall, the hybrid Honda Insight first generation debuted in 1999, then the car was a small hatch with a very specific design. The second-generation model entered the market in 2009, outwardly it almost repeated its main competitor, the Toyota Prius. In 2014, the production of economical Honda turned off – Insight was never able to circumvent Prius.
