The new Cupra Leon ST passes road testsOctober 13, 2019
Despite the growing popularity of SUVs, automakers are not abandoning station wagons.
The Seat Cupra division decided to keep the ST body style for the next generation Cupra Leon. In spy shots, it’s wine that the prototype of the novelty received twin tailpipes of the exhaust system and this indicates a more powerful version of the two planned models, as the Spanish car manufacturer also intends to introduce a basic hybrid model of 245 hp in the lineup.
The faster Cupra Leon is expected to use a turbocharged 2.0-liter turbocharged VW engine, which produces 296 hp in the Cupra Ateca. (300 hp) and a torque of 295 lb-ft (400 Nm).
If there is anything on the outgoing model, then you can confidently expect all-wheel drive, at least as an option. This combination of powertrains turned out to be a winning formula for both the Golf R and the current Leon, so it makes sense to stick with it. The new generation of Leon is based on the same updated platform that underlies the future Golf Mk8.
The new model will increase in size both in the hatchback and in the station wagon, the latter being obvious thanks to the large rear overhang.
The new Cupra Leon ST, like its German cousin, is expected to benefit from a host of new technologies, such as 48 volt electrical architecture, which will help reduce emissions as well as improved connectivity as it intends to offer the Group’s brand. The new infotainment system that debuts at Golf. It is expected that the next Seat Leon will debut by the end of the year, so we can assume that the hot Cupra options will appear somewhere in the middle of 2020.
