Volkswagen plans to show an updated version of its most popular model at the end of this year. It will not be ready for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, but the guys from Wolfsburg have made it clear that the annoying camouflage from the prototypes of the long-awaited novelty will disappear before the end of 2019.
There are still some tests that engineers of the German brand need to carry out in order to bring the car, if not to perfection, then at least to the state as close as possible to this level.
It is reported that the start of sales of the hatchback is scheduled for 2020. A fully disguised prototype was spotted the other day in Denmark by our friends from Pro-Street DK.
The new generation of VW Golf will get a similar exterior design – there is nothing fundamentally new in this respect. But the design of the salon will be a real revolution compared to the current Golf – that’s exactly what the guys from VW say.
As for the motor range, we do not expect any major changes. The petrol ruler should include the familiar 3-and 4-cylinder TSI units with a volume of 1.0 and 1.5 liters, and for more powerful versions of the GTI and R models, which will also be sold next 2020, 2.0 TSI is provided. Fans of diesel engines can expect 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI. Apparently the fully electric e-Golf will not be introduced in the new generation of the model – its role will be taken by a separate electric I.D. Buyers will still be offered the GTE Golf Performance, which will be equipped with a hybrid engine.
