The name Skoda Kamiq is selected for the new European crossoverJanuary 24, 2019
The new model of the Czech automaker will be called the same as the small crossover brand, which is sold in China. The novelty will be shown at the Geneva Motor Show (March 2019).
Skoda advertising campaign for the new European subcompact crossover continues – this week its second part was published. In it, we learn the name of the model. As originally assumed, the B-segment model will not carry the nickname Vision X as the concept introduced last year. Instead, the name starting with “K” and ending with “Q” will be used, as is the case with larger brand crossovers – Karoq and Kodiaq.
Instead of coming up with a brand new nickname for her new model, Skoda decided to use Kamiq, the name it has been using in China since 2018 for another small crossover.
The European version of the crossover should differ externally from its Chinese counterpart. The teaser, released by the Skoda press service, hints that the production version of the new product will remain true to the above-mentioned Vision X concept, and by this we mean that it will have a separate headlight design. Chinese Kamiq headlights are more traditional. There is a possibility that the back of the European Kamiq will also differ, just as the Octavia sold in Europe differs from the one available in China.
It is known that the new crossover from Skoda will be built on the basis of the MQB platform from the VW Group, and the premiere of the car will be held in early March at the Geneva Motor Show. It is too early to talk about car prices.
