The name of the next novelty Aston Martin is knownMarch 17, 2018
The British manufacturer filed an application with the Intellectual Property Office for the registration of a new trade name.
Aston Martin Lagonda has registered the name Varekai. The application specifies the scope of application – “passenger and racing cars, as well as parts thereof”.
We note at once that registration of a trademark is not an actual confirmation of its use. Although, the model called Varekai harmoniously blends into the line of the brand, where there are already cars with the names Vantage, Vanquish and Valkyrie.
Perhaps this is the name of the future electric car of the revived brand Lagonda, the concept of which recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. Aston Martin intends to release under the sub-brand Lagonda a number of powerful luxury electric vehicles, with Lagonda Vision showing what a sedan of such a plan might look like. The prototype has a new layout of the cabin, an autonomous control system and features the classic Lagonda of the 1970s.
On the other hand, the gypsy background and the translation of the word Varekai more hint at the name for the future crossover Aston Martin. Recall, the prototype of the all-road car of the British brand is the concept DBX, also presented in Geneva, but three years ago.
If the concept of the Lagonda line is only being formed, then the future of the DBX-Varekai crossover is already looming. The assembly will be adjusted at the plant currently under construction in St.Atna, Wales. Chief executive Aston Martin Marek Raikhman noted that the production model will differ from the DBX “soft” design and the presence of five doors.
The electric version is planned, but still the manufacturer focuses on gasoline ICEs, which will probably be AMG 4.0 Biturbo Ammo used by other models of the brand. The start of production is scheduled for 2019. The Aston Martin crossover will compete with Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga and Maserati Levante.
