The last 700 units of Mahindra Thar: the end of the story of the legendary Willys MBJuly 7, 2019
In India, the production of the most famous, and the most long-lived SUV in modern history is completed. Model Mahindra Thar will be released in the last 700 copies, presented the farewell series “700”.
Willys MB is a military SUV that has gained great popularity due to its capabilities, price and ease of maintenance. Back in 1947, an Indian company began importing a slightly upgraded version into its home market. In 1954, began full licensed production under its own brand. Only in 1968, the model finally changed the steering position from the right to the left side (with left-hand traffic in India).
Now the story of the model is coming to an end, and the successor to the legendary Willis will also go down in history. The final series of 700 cars called Mahindra Thar 700 Signature Edition is already available. The model differs from the standard version in a unique body color, a darkened grille, chrome-plated decorative elements and new decorative elements in the cabin.
Under the hood will remain the same 2.5-liter CRDe turbo diesel with a maximum power of up to 107 horsepower and 247 Nm of torque. A five-speed manual transmission with a reduction gear are working in tandem with it.
The limited edition Mahindra Thar 700 Signature Edition in the native market will cost from 999,000 rupees.
Meanwhile, Mahindra is preparing a new generation for its brutal SUV. The model will still preserve the traditions and will be built on the base of the frame platform.
