On the creation of a replica spent 90,000 dollars and 1300 hours
Well-known British jeweler Russell Lord will put up for sale a large-scale copy of the racing Ford Escort RS1800 Ari Vatanen. A replica measuring just over 15 centimeters is made of silver, gold, platinum and precious stones. The estimated price of the collection machine is not yet called. About 70 thousand pounds sterling (90 thousand dollars) and 1300 hours of work were spent on its creation.
Inspired by Russell Lord on the project of his son Rob. It was he who during the move found the half-finished model of the “Escort”, which his father was going to do 25 years ago. The body and the bottom of the car Lord made of silver. Rear spoiler and hood hinges are made of gold. The latter work in the same way as a real car, and the Lord spent 80 hours to make them.
For the grille, the jeweler decided to use white gold. Head optics and turn indicators made from diamonds of different weights and orange sapphires.
Wheels and brake discs are also made of silver and gold. The mud flaps are also gold, but decorated with 630 black diamonds. In the cabin of the model installed racing seats with adjustable head restraints and a movable handbrake lever. The gearshift lever is made of platinum and gold. It also made the steering column. Lord even managed to reproduce in detail the steering rack, suspension parts, stabilizers and engine.
The racing debut of the Ford Escort RS1800 took place in 1975. The car won the rally of Great Britain from 1975 to 1979, as well as successfully participate in other races. “Escort” was equipped with a 1.8-liter Cosworth BDE engine with 117 horsepower, which was later replaced by a 253-horsepower unit with a volume of 2.0 liters.
