The Japanese made an electric car from plasticSeptember 28, 2018
The concept car of a new generation of electric vehicles made from 90% of different types of plastics was shown today in Tokyo. Compared to traditional cars using metal, it is expected that the innovative model will significantly reduce weight and contribute to the development of energy-efficient electric cars, according to the local television channel NHK.
The electric vehicle published in the photographs was developed within the framework of the Impact initiative, which, with the support of the Cabinet, brings together the efforts of manufacturers and research institutes to develop innovative technologies. This copy has a length of more than four meters and a futuristic design due to streamlined shapes.
The most important feature is that about 90% of the body is made of special plastic, recently developed by manufacturers and scientists from the institutes. They tried to make the car much easier, and they did it – the weight of the conceptual model is about 60% of the car made of ordinary metal.
As the project participants say, it used to be considered that plastic is difficult to process, moreover, it is not strong enough to use it as a material for creating a machine. “However, we have shown ingenuity and found a way to make it more reliable for our purposes,” say the scientists. “And he is to combine several types of plastics.”
Scientists also added: “Now, thanks to this discovery, in the future we will be able to expect the development of energy-efficient electric cars.” Of the plastic were made all the main parts of the car, including internal.
Professor Kozo Ito of Tokyo University said: “If the weight of the car is halved, the fuel will be reduced by half. When new types of resins and plastics become popular, they can be expected to have a huge impact on the natural environment. ” He also promised to talk about the problem with costs, mass production and so on.
