The Italian will make a copy of the Fiat 500 from a 15-ton block of marbleMay 21, 2018
Turin sculptor Nazareno Biondo is working on creating a full-size copy of the Fiat 500 model car from a 15-ton block of white marble. He wants to devote his work to criticizing over-consumption and to a society in which goods lose their own significance.
Using only a circular saw, Biondo plans to complete the sculpture in a few months. After that, the “machine” can be immediately sent to the dump, because it “is a reflection of consumerism, the waste of modern society.”
Previously, Biondo made of marble another transport symbol of Italy – the Vespa scooter. In addition, among his works there are various abstract sculptures and large-scale marble “copies” of everyday things.
Earlier, the Swedish company Playsam in cooperation with Maserati introduced a collection of wooden machines dedicated to the legendary models of the Italian brand. Among them there is a crossover Levante and a conceptual coupe Alfieri.
