Cars of the German brand BMW have caused a lot of criticism from drivers from South Korea. They report numerous incidents of spontaneous combustion of cars of this brand.

In the current situation, the Ministry of State Territories, Infrastructure and Transport of South Korea decided to investigate, whose specialists initiated an investigation into Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW).

In turn, the concern of BMW last week announced its decision to recall for service of 106,317 cars. The reason is still the same. The manufacturer has learned about 28 cases of spontaneous combustion recorded since the beginning of this year.

As AFP reports, already 17 customers of BMW in South Korea filed lawsuits demanding compensation for damages. They accuse the brand representatives of too late reaction to technical malfunctions.

The average amount of the claim is about 4 thousand euros. It is possible that in the near future the number of plaintiffs may increase.

Transport Minister Kim Hyong Mi made a statement that the initiated investigation into BMW cars will be thorough and transparent. If problems are identified, the government will take “the most stringent measures”.

The service campaign in South Korea will start on August 20, when the required number of spare parts will be delivered to the country. In addition, the AGR system can be replaced.

Among those who came under the review of BMW cars were mainly models of the third and fifth series with diesel engines. In total, under the BMW brand, 42 modifications were issued, which left the conveyor from March 2011 to November 2016.

Experts note that the cause of spontaneous combustion can be a malfunction in the system of recirculation of exhaust gases (AGR).
