The iconic Porsche 959, which participated in the Paris-Dakar rally, is on sale
September 11, 2020One of three examples of the Porsche 959, which was built for the legendary rally in 1985 and is kept in private collections, was put up for auction by Joe Macari Performance Cars on Friday 11 September. It was this instance that Jackie X was driving when he had an accident.
In total, Porsche has built 6 cars for the renowned rally group B. One of them died at the “Rally of the Pharaohs” in Egypt in 1985, two are in private collectors, and the rest are presented in the factory museum. The piece that went on sale was also considered part of the factory collection until 2014, when it was acquired by a collector from the United States.
The crew of Jackie Ickx and Claude Brasseur, who drove this car in the Paris-Dakar rally in 1985, were forced to leave the track after colliding with a stone. London dealer Joe Macari Performance Cars, which sells cars, notes that the consequences of that accident were eliminated in 2015 by specialists from the Gunnar Racing workshop.
The rally car is based on a modified 911 SC coupe with a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter 6-cylinder boxer engine. It features a reinforced suspension, an upgraded all-wheel drive, a 200-liter fuel tank and a radically redesigned exterior.
The sports car’s mileage is now just over 7000 km. As for the cost of the famous rarity, the seller will only inform the interested buyer.
In addition, more recently it was noted that the Jaguar E-type was put up for sale like Brigitte Bardot. It should be emphasized that the coupe, which is painted in a dark purple hue, with a beige interior, is 30,000 kilometers.
