Note that in their homeland (in the USA), the sedan / station wagon / hatchback is known as the Fusion.
As it became known from a recent interview with representatives of the American brand, the leadership of Ford is going to not just present an updated version of the model, which will get a slightly different appearance. The current family of Mondeo will also receive a new fellow, which will become a hybrid wagon.
According to the guys from the American company, the novelty was developed exclusively for the automotive markets of Europe and will allow motorists to get a spacious car that will spend an amazingly small amount of fuel. Note that at the moment, for Europe, a hybrid version of the sedan is also available.
“For many customers, the practicality offered by the body style is an absolute necessity, so we are pleased to announce that starting next year, the Mondeo station wagon equipped with a hybrid powertrain will be offered for these drivers,” said Roland de Waard, vice president of marketing, sales and service in Ford of Europe.
It is safe to assume that the American novelty will receive the same power unit as the above-mentioned hybrid sedan Mondeo. We are talking about a 2.0-liter gasoline engine running on the Atkinson cycle, the torque from which goes to the front axle, and an electric starter-generator. The latter in particular can generate energy during braking, which will be used to power the on-board electronics. The battery is also likely to be behind the rear seats.
