For the first time, the public got acquainted with the Toyota GR Super Sport hypercar for a marathon race even at the stage of its development.

The fact that the Japanese have decided on the premiere of the Toyota GR Super Sport hypercar, writes Autocar. Recall that the prototype car was based on the two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans marathon, the hybrid TS050 prototype. Driven by former Formula 1 driver Alex Wurz, this car completed the lap of the French circuit ahead of the 2020 race.

The car tried on the camouflage of the Toyota GR sports division. The GR Super Sport road concept was unveiled two years ago. It is she who, according to our foreign colleagues, will serve as the basis for the racing version, which will participate in the races of the new Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class in 2021.

Recall that the LMH rules allow both racing versions of road hypercars and custom-made prototypes. LMH hybrid systems allow the installation of electric motors with a return of 268 hp. on the front axles of the car, offering all-wheel drive.

Also, the requirement, finally approved this year, allows the use of vehicles with a total power output of 670 hp. with a minimum weight of 1100 kg.
Earlier, when describing the conceptual GT Super Sport, Toyota talked about a hybrid discharge plant with a capacity of 986 hp. At that time, the LMH rules were not yet announced.

It is not yet known whether the Japanese will keep this figure for the future road GR Super Sport or bring it to a maximum of 670 hp. for a racing hypercar.

In the meantime, a unique Porsche 962 car, which participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, was put up for sale.
