The head of Toyota hints at the emergence of new sports carsJanuary 29, 2019
In the coming years, the company plans to introduce several sports models, as well as more powerful versions of existing cars.
With the emergence of new models of the Japanese automaker, such as the next-generation Supra sports coupe, Yaris GRMN hatchback and Corolla Hatchback, Toyota hopes to change its image from a boring and reliable brand to a young and modern brand. It will be a slow process that can take at least several years, but, fortunately, this probably means that a couple of sports cars may appear in the automaker’s model lineup.
Unfortunately, there is no exact data on such intentions of Toyota. But the head of the company hinted at possible additions to the family of productive models of Gazoo Racing.
As part of his interview at the North American International Auto Show 2019 in Detroit earlier this month, Akio Toyoda said the new Supra probably won’t be Toyota’s last sports car in the coming years.
“SUVs and crossovers are nice, but in the end, is there anything better than a rear wheel drive sports car?” I hope that this is not the last Toyota sports car that you will see in the near future, ”he told the publication shortly after the debut of the revived Supra.
In recent months, we have heard rumors about the appearance of successors for the Celica and MR2 sports models, but it’s more likely that Toyota will first introduce more powerful versions for the GT86, Yaris and the new Corolla hatchback. It is assumed that the latter will receive a hybrid 2.0-liter turbo engine with a capacity of about 250 horsepower.
Not so long ago, we wrote that for Toyota Supra 2020 have already prepared a wide body kit.
