The head of Renault-Nissan Alliance Carlos Ghosn could become chairman of Mitsubishi Motors board of directors. Thus, a Frenchman with the Lebanese and Brazilian roots will be the first person to simultaneously lead the three automakers. This is with reference to its sources reported Bloomberg.
At the moment, Carlos Ghosn not only led Renault-Nissan alliance, but also directs each of the automakers alone. In addition, Ghosn led the “AvtoVAZ” the board of directors. At Mitsubishi Motors and the Franco-Japanese automaker did not comment on the possible appointment of a new top manager.
Nissan has become the largest shareholder of Mitsubishi Motors in the spring. The second largest Japanese automaker has bought 34 percent of Mitsubishi Securities, spending a $2.17 billion. Other shareholders are Mitsubishi Motors Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Corporation and The Bank of Tokyo.
Nissan acquired an equity stake in Mitsubishi, after the automaker admitted falsifying data on fuel consumption small cars – kei cars. After this became known, the value of shares in Mitsubishi Motors fell by 15 percent, which was the largest single drop in the last 12 years.
