The giant statue was painted with the face of Elon Musk and the Tesla logo on his chestMay 22, 2020
In such an unusual way, the residents of Tulsa wanted to attract the attention of a billionaire
Residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma, so wanted Elon Musk to build a new Tesla plant in their city that they took desperate measures: they painted the face of a billionaire on the famous statue of the Golden Driller, and painted a Tesla logo on his chest. Users of social networks noted that the giant statue the height of a nine-story building turned out to be both ridiculous and creepy.
The Golden Driller was erected on the territory of the International Petroleum Exhibition Center in the middle of the last century and dedicated to the “oil workers who created a better life for humanity”, as indicated by the memorial plaque. A figure weighing about 22 tons was cast from reinforced concrete, painted in golden color, and since 1979 it has become the official symbol of Oklahoma.
Over the years, American companies have used the Golden Driller for marketing purposes. For example, for advertising Coca-Cola he was dressed in a huge T-shirt with the brand logo. Now the “Golden Driller” “tried on” the face of the head of Tesla, Ilon Mask. According to the authors of the idea, the calculation was that the billionaire would pay attention to Oklahoma and build a factory in Tulsa to produce an electric pickup truck Cybertruck and Model Y.
However, the performance is poor. According to the Jalopnik publication, citing social networks, the giant mask was called ugly, ridiculous and even frightening, and at the same time they remembered other reincarnations of the Golden Driller.
Earlier, Tesla filed a lawsuit against the state of California due to the fact that they did not allow the assembly of electric vehicles to be resumed, while Musk threatened to transfer production to another state, including the Austin city of Texas. Later, California authorities made concessions, Tesla withdrew the lawsuit, and the company in Fremont returned to work.
Despite this, they did not abandon the idea of building a new assembly site – they will begin to build the company in the near future, and by the end of next year it is planned to build the Model Y assembly there.
