Today the first factory of the Swedish company in the territory of the USA (Charleston, South Carolina) was inaugurated. This was reported by the press service of the company. The enterprise is open within the framework of the strategy “We produce where we sell”.

The plant in the United States will join the list of Volvo production capacities located in different parts of the world. So, in Europe, two automotive enterprises and one for the production of engines are based. In China – three plants, in India and Malaysia – assembly factories.

In the American plant will be invested about 1.1 billion dollars, and a year is planned to produce 150 thousand units. For workers and specialists, approximately four thousand vacancies will open.

This fall, the American mid-size vehicles will be producing a premium mid-size sedan Volvo S60, built on a modular platform SPA. And since 2021 there will be a large premium crossover XS90. In addition to local sales, cars produced in Charleston will also be exported.

The total area of ​​the plant itself is about 650 hectares, and the size of its premises is 213,700 m². On the factory territory there is also an office building for 300 specialists.

Previously, representatives of Volvo said that for the production of their cars will use parts from recyclables. Severity of intentions is confirmed by the presentation of a special version of the XC60 crossover.
