The first “true” Cupra will be a coupe-like crossoverAugust 15, 2018
The first model, designed and built specifically for the Cupra brand, is likely to be a coupe-like crossover. According to the chief designer of the Spanish brand Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the car will make its debut next year. This is reported by the publication Autocar.
“We need to develop a new brand gradually,” says Mesonero-Romanos. “When we decided to launch Cupra as a separate brand, there were two ways: to wait for the 100% model born under a new brand to appear, or to start making small steps immediately. This is how Cupra Ateca appeared. ” This Cupra, in terms of design and engineering, Mesonero-Romanos promised to announce as early as next year.
Crossover Ateca, the first to receive the Cupra logo, is equipped with a two-liter turbo engine, the output of which is 300 horsepower. The unit is combined with a seven-speed robotic DSG gearbox with two clutches. The all-terrain vehicle is also equipped with a 4Drive all-wheel drive with traction control system, adaptive DCC shock absorbers and a system for changing the operating modes of the control electronics with five predefined options, including a special “racing” Cupra mode.
Also, Cupra engineers built an electric racing hatchback e-Racer, whose power plant can produce up to 680 horsepower. From zero to 100 kmh racing Cupra e-Racer accelerates in 3.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 270 kilometers per hour. Specification hatchback allows him to participate in the racing series E-TCR – a touring championship among electric vehicles.
