The first tests Volvo XC40: a comfortable cabin, but noisy dieselDecember 14, 2017
Volvo recently introduced its new compact crossover XC40, which will compete with such models as Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Jaguar E-Pace.
Unlike competitors, the XC40 does not look like the “younger brother” of older models. Rather, we can say that the XC40 is the cousin of the XC60 and XC90, and it looks like a “tough, small robot”.
The interior quality of the XC40 interior is worse than that of older models, but not much: simplified elements that could be simplified, and overall, it looks no worse than competitors. Landing in the driver’s seat is good, multimedia system Sensus works clearly, in the back row there is a lot of free space.
Suspension even on wheels 245/45 R20 performs well pits well, but the car behaves better with speed: pit feels less, transverse swinging comes to naught. At a low speed, all this is present, but it does not bother. The heavier diesel version is equipped with wheels 235/50 R19, however, the behavior on them does not change significantly.
As for powertrains, there are no claims for a petrol turbojet with a capacity of two liters and a return of 247 forces, but a diesel engine with the same volume and output of 187 horsepower is noisier than that of German rivals. To the “automatic machine” no complaints: it works smoothly and quickly.
The crossover has a high ground clearance. Feels like the XC40 chassis is above the road surface higher than all competitors. From the door cards were removed bass speakers, so that something to lose on the floor of the crossover is almost impossible.
Useful thing: the digital keys from the XC40 can be “tied” to the smartphones of their loved ones, and the car can be used without any obstacles.
On the roads of Catalonia, the crossover behaves faster, lighter and faster than the XC60 T6. The Dynamic mode makes the power unit of the crossover more responsive: the engine responds better to the gas pedal, and the transmission starts to “click” faster with gears. But here on the steering and brakes it practically does not affect. The sports suspension of R-Design allowed observers to “catch” in corners with the old Volkswagen Golf GTI, whose driver obviously did not hesitate. With all this, no pit on the road has not knocked out of the hands of passengers their smartphones.
The fuel consumption of the gasoline version was just over 10 liters per 100 kilometers, while half of the way to 290 kilometers we overcame in the city mode, and half – outside the city.
In general, the we agreed that Volvo had a strong and comfortable crossover, which, although not sporty, could quickly accelerate and quickly turn around if necessary.
