The first stage of WSBK-2019 completed in AustraliaFebruary 25, 2019
Alvaro Bautista, who debuted in the series this year, has become the undisputed leader of the Australian stage. Spaniard performs at Ducati.
Bautista spent many years in the parallel MotoGP series, and in 2019 he moved to WSBK, where he managed to win two weekend races. By the way, on the pre-season tests, he also showed a confident fight, overtaking rivals by 0.4 seconds. This tells us that the driver is ready to dominate on the track, despite the rather weak performances of his team mate Chaz Davis. The Briton in the first stage was only the tenth.
Both days of the stage in the second position turned out to be Johnny Ray on Kawasaki. With Alvaro, he was separated by a big time difference – 15 and 12 seconds on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Bautista shared his impressions of the first victories: “During the winter tests, our team did an excellent job, which allowed us to prepare competitive equipment. And I am pleased with the first victories in the superbike, although I could not earn a pole. So far I have been trying new tires. I had a strategy like you can quickly take the lead and hold on at this pace until the end, so that I could watch the lap increase by lap and lap. I am pleased. “
In the first pre-season tests, MotoGP racers tested a new penalty system.
