BMW has a new diesel engine that will soon appear on the 3 Series ‘menu’. EditionAutoTimesNews presents the first exclusive images and specifications of new items.
The 265 hp 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which will be used as the base for the 330d version, is currently the most powerful diesel that BMW delivers in the 3 Series. The X3 and X4 SUVs are available with the same diesel, but they also have the M40d variant, which is significantly stronger (326 hp and 680 Nm). The new BMW 3 Series will be offered with a diesel engine version that even surpasses this version of the M40d.
The new flagship of the family, the diesel M340d xDrive, contrary to the earlier one, will be available not only as a station wagon. The all-wheel-drive diesel modification, in addition to the M340i, the second M Performance 3 Series model, ultimately squeezes 340 hp. and 700 Nm from its 3.0-liter engine. Thanks to soft hybrid technology, the powerplant adds another 11 horsepower. Power is distributed across all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Thanks to this “stuffing”, the M340d xDrive is able to reach a speed of 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. The Touring version will require 4.8 seconds. Maximum speed is electronically limited at 250 km / h. The average fuel consumption of a sedan, depending on the selected version, is from 5.3 to 5, 7 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, and Touring – from 5.4 to 5.8 l / 100 km. Only on electric traction the car can move up to a speed of 160 km / h.
Externally, the sports diesel duo features an M-spoiler and a bumper, as well as 18-inch alloy wheels. With the M340d, BMW has a decent response to Audi’s S4, a car that last year in Europe traded its 3.0 TFSI for 347 hp. and 700 Nm 3.0 TDI with soft hybrid technology. Mercedes-Benz does not have a heavy-duty diesel version in the C-Class line. The most powerful diesel engine develops 306 hp. and connected to the electric motor in the plug-in hybrid C 300de.
