The first batch of Toyota GR Yaris 2021 sold out in just six daysOctober 2, 2020
The Japanese hot hatch enjoyed such a rush in Australia. Two weeks ago, the automaker announced that the first thousand cars are being sent to local shores.
All of these vehicles earned a starting price tag of AU $ 39,950. That’s 14k less than the suggested retail price. So it’s not surprising that the first “charged” Yaris found owners in less than a week. Local Toyota has decided to lower the price of the new product at launch to spark interest in the GR Performance brand in the Australian market.
The plan was a success: instead of 12-18 months, it took only six days to sell 1,000 vehicles. Moreover, 560 copies were sold out in the first 24 hours. How many orders were placed by private buyers, and how many dealers, is not reported.
The automaker himself admitted that he was surprised by such an increased interest in Toyota’s first sports car in more than 20 years. So, in an interview with Car Advice, Toyota Australia President of Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley noted that the brand deliberately sought to make the GR Yaris available to sports car fans.
At the same time, he noted that with the new price list, the GR Yaris still has a significant price advantage over cars with similar characteristics.
Moreover, their cost exceeds 50,000 Australian dollars. However, it is not yet possible to pre-order the limited edition GR Yaris Rallye. The circulation of such a hatchback will be limited to only 250 units. The limited edition will appear next year.
