The first batch of electric cars Aiways U5 went to EuropeJune 4, 2020
Aiways began shipping the U5 electric SUV to Europe, where the first cars will arrive in July.
The first batch was ordered by Hertz Corsica, which is locally managed by Filippi Auto, and has 500 units. It can be rented on the French island of Corsica, starting next month.
“We were encouraged by recent attempts by European leaders, such as the French government and others, to invest and expand the electric car market,” – said Alexander Klose, executive vice president of the Chinese startup overseas operations.
Made in Shanrao, China, at a factory with an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, the U5 is available for order in several European countries, including Germany, Norway, Switzerland and the Netherlands. A zero-emission SUV will have to undergo scheduled maintenance every 62,000 miles (100,000 km), and for this Aiways will work with independent workshops in each market.
The first Chinese zero-emission SUV to be officially launched in Europe, has a length of 4.68 meters, a width of 1.87 meters and a height of 1.70 meters and offers 432 liters of luggage space.
It is driven by an electric motor mounted on the front axle, which generates 188 hp. and 232 Nm of torque. The 63 kWh battery, which provides a 27-minute charge time of 30 to 80% when using a fast DC charger, provides a charge of more than 400 km.
