The fate of the Kia Stinger remains in question even after the updateSeptember 26, 2020
As a rule, by the time the model is undergoing a planned restyling, the automaker is already starting to develop a new generation, but this does not apply to the Kia Stinger.
According to Car Sales, based on Kia Australia’s head of product planning, Roland Rivero, the Korean brand has yet to know what to do with the Stinger, even after the update.
“Speaking about what appearance the new generation model will get, there is nothing to say about this at the moment,” Rivero said.
According to him, the Korean company will resort to extending the life cycle of the current Stinger, so that it has more time to decide on the future of the car. And, at the very least, to cover the cost of building the model, as Kia still struggles with that.
“Probably a longer life cycle will provide more room for decision making. However, the fate of the new generation model is currently unknown, ”Rivero stressed. It is worth noting that the Stinger has never met Kia’s expectations in terms of sales volume: for example, in Europe, since the model was launched in 2017, a total of about 10,000 cars have been sold. The recent update is unlikely to make any difference, as Kia only tweaked the design a bit, leaving the engine lineup almost unchanged.
In addition, it was recently noted that the new Kia Sorento has acquired an off-road modification of the X-Line. It should be emphasized that the emergence of new items on the American market is expected before the end of this year. The cost, in turn, is still unknown.
